It’s that time of the Holy Week again—Black Saturday! As Catholics believe that Jesus Christ is dead on this day, it has been a Filipino culture to watch horror films that will spook the soul out of you.
1. Apostle (2018)
Plot: London, 1905. Thomas Richardson went on a dangerous mission on a remote island to rescue his kidnapped sister intertwined with a mysterious, sinister religious cult and its secrets.
2. Saint Maud (2019)
Plot: Follows a young and pious nurse who becomes desperately obsessed with saving the soul of her dying patient.
3. Seklusyon (2016)
Plot: 1947, aspiring priests are sent to a remote convent for the last day of their training to live in seclusion. The purpose is to shield them from the temptations of evil. A mysterious young girl then arrives and twists the fate of these aspiring priests. The question is: Is she sent by God or is she from the devil?
4. Midsommar (2019)
Plot: A couple went on a trip to Scandivania to witness a rural hometown’s fabled Swedish midsummer festival. What is supposedly a peaceful retreat easily transforms into a violent and bizarre competition of a pagan cult.
5. Eerie (2019)
Plot: After a student’s suicide disturbs an all-girls Catholic school, a clairvoyant guidance counselor relies on a ghost to reveal the convent’s abusive and inhumane past.
6. The Sacrament (2013)
Plot: A found footage reveals events that surround an investigative team’s exploration to a secluded commune led by a savage fanatic who keeps an iron grip on the followers.
7. The Nun (2018)
Plot: A priest with a haunted past and a novice on the verge of her final vows are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a nun in Romania and face a malevolent force that disguises as a demonic nun.
8. Children of the Corn film series
Plot: A couple ends up in an isolated Nebraska town inhabited entirely by a cult of children who have murdered all the adults in the town and worships an evil entity called “He Who Walks Behind The Rows”. There are seven sequels of the film, the first one beginning in 1984.
