Korean pop (KPop) idol Chung Ha’s much-awaited first studio album “Querencia” dropped last Monday, along with the music video of the album’s title track “Bicycle”, showing yet another side to the artist since her solo debut in 2017.

The album has 21 tracks comprising five one-minute instrumentals and 16 tracks. The four tracks in the album feature Chung Ha’s collaborations with different artists including R3HAB, Changmo, Colde, and Puerto Rican rapper Guaynaa.

Among the tracks in the album, Chung Ha cited “Byulharang (160504 + 170607)” as her favorite. It is her first self-written and self-composed track which she dedicated to her fans, who are called “Byulharang.”

“They are my querencia,” Chung Ha said, referring to her fans. “ I wanted people to be able to escape this reality and relax for at least those 3 minutes listening to my songs.”

This comeback had been pushed back to Feb. 15 from its original release date on Jan. 4 after Chung Ha tested positive for the coronavirus back in early December.

In a press conference held through Zoom, Chung Ha said she went through personal issues in 2020, “Throughout that, I was like, what helped me the most, it was my album. I should name it ‘Querencia.’”

The 25-year-old admitted that “Bicycle” was not her first choice to lead the album, “But because ‘Querencia’ was a journey of challenge for me, I just went for it,” she told the media.

The album debuted at No. 1 on Korea’s Hanteo Chart and Gaon Music Chart, while the music video garnered 8.7 million views as of this writing since its premiere last Monday.
