Korean pop boy group Shinee comes back with a bang with their 7th and latest full-length album “Don’t Call Me” on Feb. 22.
The 12-year-old K-pop group emerges from their 3-year hiatus with a full-length album after members Onew (Lee Jin-ki), Key (Kim Ki-bum), and Choi Min-ho came back from their mandatory service. Lee Tae-min, the youngest of the four-member group, is yet to serve his time.
The album contains nine new songs from the group.
The title track of the same name, “Don’t Call Me” starts with a jazz undertone and progresses with a catchy heavy bass and rhythm. One of their more darker concepts which still captures their delicate musicality.
“Marry You” sports a mellow and slow, perhaps a bit sensual, beat to it, accentuating each member’s unique voices.
On the other hand, “Heart Attack” starts strong with its beats and reverbs and only builds up to a catchy chorus, true to Shinee’s vocal colors. A musical progression old Shinee fans are familiar with and will appreciate.
In contrast, “CODE” starts strong with a rap portion, still sporting a heavy rhythm all throughout the song.
The other tracks in the album are “I Really Want You”, “Kiss Kiss”, “Body Rhythm”, “Attention”, and “Kind”, a mixture of house beats, and electro pop among others.
The K-pop act debuted with 5 members in 2008. Member Kim Jong-hyun passed away in 2017.
